Ep 78 Nick Irwin – where I’m at in hairdressing right now!

Dec 9, 2021

A warts-and-all conversation between Respectfully host Nicky Pope and hairdressing senior statesman Nick Irwin. He’s currently a freelancer with roles including being the hair editor at Hunger magazine, enjoying collaborations with great creatives including photographer Rankin, and working as a sought-after session stylist. Equally he’s also back in the corporate fold in a new role with a leading colour powerhouse, Schwarzkopf Professional. Listen to Nick reflect candidly on his journey to date – including some frank, open comments on his own history – it’s inspiring stuff.

A short history

HyperFocal: 0

Nick Irwin kicked off his hairdressing career in the north of England in the mid 80s. His career since then has embraced so many different experiences; he worked for years with Anthony Mascolo and Toni&Guy, rolling out the brand’s education in Australasia, then moved on to TIGI International where he became Creative Director. It was a high-stakes, give-it-all approach. Since 2014, Nick has changed his mindset to work more independently and invest time and energy in both session work, and mentoring youngsters for the Fellowship for British Hairdressing. He’s growing his relationships with leading inspirations in fashion and media and is close to Eugene Souleiman, Duffy and other sessionistas. His most recent reinvention is as Global Style Director at Schwarzkopf Professional.
